Best Book & Best Author 2025

Mamá No Estoy Muerta

By Mariela SR. Coline Fanon

- GUATEMALA -

“To know who I am is to know where I come from.”

With these words, Mariela S.R. Coline Fanon opens a story etched in silence, survival,

and the fierce search for identity.

Her life began amid the chaos of Guatemala’s Internal Armed Conflict in the 1980s  a time of terror and heartbreak. Before she could walk, she was stolen. Her mother was told she had died. But she hadn’t.

Mariela was taken across oceans and borders, raised in Belgium by a family who never knew the truth.

For decades, the pieces of her story remained scattered  buried beneath silence, sealed records, and unimaginable grief.

At 31,  the ache to know her origins could no longer be quieted. She began to search. What she found was

not only her past, but a voice  bold, unflinching, and determined to speak for thousands like her.

Now an author and activist, Mariela brings light to the stolen children of Guatemala and to the
power of reclaiming one’s truth.
